Examining and training the brain waves at PYONG Rehabilitation

Brainwave Analysis and Training is an approach to restoring the brain that combines technology and medicine. At PYONG Rehabilitation Penthouse (Gaysorn Tower, floor 11, BTS Chidlom) in particular, we have chosen to use the latest model of the BrainWave Analysis and training device, in order to help those with problems of perception, memory, or concentration, or older adults who want to prevent dementia, receive rehabilitation safely and exactly according to their needs.

This service suits those who want preventive care of the brain, rehabilitation after stroke, or to reinforce the skills of focus and perception, with a rehabilitation physician and a multidisciplinary team caring for them closely.

What is brain wave analysis and training?

Brain wave analysis and training is the process of detecting and assessing the working of the brain waves through a signal-detecting device, and then taking the data to use in training and stimulating the brain appropriately. The purpose is to help the brain reach a balance between alertness and relaxation, so that the person receiving the service has better concentration and perception.

In general the training is used together with supporting activities, such as VR meditation training, games to train focus, or music therapy, which are methods that are painless and safe.

Why choose brain wave training at PYONG Rehabilitation

At PYONG Rehabilitation Penthouse we emphasise physician-led care. Every step is assessed by a rehabilitation physician before a plan of rehabilitation for the individual is designed.

The important difference is that we have chosen to use the latest model of Brain Wave Analysis and Training technology, whose qualities are as follows.

It can detect the brain waves in detail, all 6 brain waves, namely:

    1. The Gamma wave, which has influence during anxiety
    1. The High Beta wave, which has influence during tension
    1. The Middle Beta wave, which has influence during thinking with logic
    1. The Low Beta wave, which has influence when perceiving what is around us
    1. The Alpha wave, which has influence when relaxing or during meditation
    1. The Theta wave, which has influence during sleep, and which if present too much may be an indicator of depression and exhaustion

in order to assess the score of stress of the brain and the body, and also the score of the management of the brain's load and the score of the quality of rest.

  • It can be used to analyse data in depth and follow up and record the changes of the brain precisely

Our Brain Training System has more than 7 modes of training, gathering more than 100 forms of training,
namely:

  • The mode of meditation training to relax the brain using the sounds of the natural environment (Neurofeedback Meditation)
  • The mode of the programme training meditation and focus (MBSR Meditation)
  • The mode of relaxing the brain with colour theory (Coloring Therapy)
  • The mode of training to relax the body and the brain (Gymnastics)
  • The mode of games for focus (Concentration)
  • The mode of games to train the left and right hemispheres of the brain (Brain)
  • The mode of breathing training (Breathing)

Compared with other methods, such as ordinary brain training programmes with no measurement from the brain waves, or doing a training activity on one side only, doing Brain Analysis and Training at PYONG allows us to "see" the real response of the brain and adjust the training more precisely.

The process by which brain wave training works

  1. Assessing the brain – the doctor uses the Brain Analysis device to detect the brain waves in various states
  2. Analysing the data – the data is entered into the Brain Analysis and Training system in order to create a profile of the working of the brain
  3. Designing the training – the doctor and the occupational therapist will choose a brain training programme for the individual from all 7 modes of training and 100 forms, to suit the patient's goals of treatment
  4. Doing the training – the patient takes part in the activity, with the doctor and the rehabilitation team following closely
  5. Following up the result – reassessing at intervals, in order to adjust the plan of training suitably

In each session the person receiving the service may feel relaxed, focused, or slightly challenged in the training, but there is no pain and no danger.

The conditions suited to brain wave training

  • Attention deficit or lack of concentration
  • Problems of short-term/long-term memory
  • Dementia at an early stage
  • Rehabilitation after stroke
  • Anxiety, insomnia
  • Stress from work
  • Depression at a mild level
  • Older adults who want to slow the degeneration of the brain
  • Those who want to reinforce concentration and focus
  • The general public who want preventive development of the brain

The research supporting brain wave training

Several pieces of research indicate that using brain wave training together with supporting activities may help increase the working of the parts of the brain involved in memory, concentration, and the control of emotion, for example:

  • Brain wave training in the form of Neurofeedback is found to be able to help reinforce concentration in children and in some groups of adults
  • Stimulating the brain through games is reported to have a good effect on the memory and perception of older adults
  • Research on music therapy indicates that music can stimulate the brain circuits involved in emotion and learning

Although the result depends on the individual, this data reflects that this approach has the potential to help support the health of the brain.

How often should it be trained?

In general it is advised to begin training 1–2 times a week and to continue for at least 4–6 weeks, so that a clear change is seen. However, the doctor is the one who will plan the frequency and the form that suits each person.

When should a result be expected?

  • Short term: many people feel more relaxed after the first training, or have more concentration within 1–2 weeks
  • Long term: development of memory, perception, and concentration usually becomes clearer with continuous training over 1–2 months

Safety and points to be careful of

Brain wave training with Omnifit is considered a technology that is non-invasive, painless, and highly safe. However, the medical team at PYONG Rehabilitation will always assess beforehand, to be sure that it suits each individual receiving the service.

The cost

The cost starts at 4,600 baht, the exact price depending on the number of sessions and the form of training. The doctor will assess and advise the most suitable package for you.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

  1. Whom does brain wave training suit?
It suits older adults, those rehabilitating after stroke, or those who want to develop concentration and memory.
  2. Is it painful?
It is not painful; it is examination and training that are non-invasive.
  3. How many sessions before a result is seen?
It depends on the individual; in general a change begins to be seen within 4–6 weeks.
  4. Are there side effects?
In general there are no severe side effects, but the doctor will always assess its suitability beforehand.
  5. How does it differ from ordinary brain training?
Omnifit uses real measurement of the brain waves, so that the training can be adjusted more precisely and for the individual.

Choosing a place to treat pain and conditions of the brain from a clinic cared for by a team of specialist physicians with expertise, such as PYONG Rehabilitation Clinic and PYONG Rehabilitation Penthouse, helps the patient receive effective and safe care, with modern technology, so that the patient has the chance to recover and return to a better quality of life quickly.
