Intensive Stroke Rehabilitation
Intensive stroke rehabilitation Program
The intensive programme for rehabilitating patients with cerebrovascular disease
At PYONG Rehabilitation, the programme for rehabilitating patients with cerebrovascular disease is planned in an integrated way, under the care of rehabilitation physicians together with a team of specialist physicians and a multidisciplinary team expert in diseases of the nervous system and the brain, combined with advanced technology and rehabilitation robots, the plan being adjusted continuously according to the response of the patient in each period of the rehabilitation.
Whether the patient is in the early period after the disease arose (the Golden Period) or a long time has passed, suitable assessment, planning the rehabilitation so that it corresponds to the condition of each patient, as well as choosing the technology and determining the intensity of the training suitably, are important elements that help open the opportunity for the patient to rehabilitate to the greatest extent according to their potential.
Tell us the symptoms or concerns, and receive preliminary advice on assessment and treatment
This programme is suited to
- Patients with cerebrovascular disease (Stroke), both in the first 6 months (the Golden Period) and after the Golden Period has passed
- Patients who have symptoms of weakness on one side
- Patients who have problems of walking, of balance, and of movement, problems of the arm and the hand
- Patients who have a state of muscle spasticity or stiff joints
- Patients who have problems of speech, of swallowing, or of doing the routines of daily life
- Patients who want intensive rehabilitation in order to increase their ability in living daily life
A Comprehensive Neurorebilitation Program
The intensity and the continuity of the training both have a bearing on the recovery after a stroke
The brain still has the potential to recover after a state of cerebrovascular disease (Stroke). However, the level of the recovery may differ in each patient, depending on many important factors, namely the pathology of the disease, the length of time after the state of cerebrovascular disease arose, the intensity of the training, planning the treatment systematically and in every dimension, as well as choosing the technology so that it corresponds to the problems of the patient at the suitable time.
At PYONG Rehabilitation, the Intensive Stroke Rehabilitation Program uses an approach to care that is integrated and linked together systematically, from detailed assessment by the team of specialist physicians and the multidisciplinary team, in order to determine the plan of rehabilitation together in the same direction; choosing the suitable techniques and technologies of rehabilitation; as well as following up and adjusting the plan of treatment according to the progress of the patient in each stage of the recovery.
This programme covers the problems met often after a stroke, such as walking, balance, the use of the hand and the arm, a state of muscle spasticity, speech, swallowing, and cognitive ability, as well as supporting the patient in being able to depend on themselves better and return to doing the routines of daily life suitably.
Rehabilitating patients with cerebrovascular disease in an integrated way
Using an approach to rehabilitation that is integrated and linked together systematically, from detailed assessment by the team of specialist physicians and the multidisciplinary team, in order to plan the rehabilitation together in the same direction; choosing the suitable techniques and technologies of rehabilitation; as well as following up and adjusting the plan of treatment according to the progress of each individual patient.
Planning the rehabilitation in harmony, in the same direction
Each patient will receive care from a multidisciplinary team expert in rehabilitating diseases of the nervous system and the brain, under the supervision of a rehabilitation physician. If it is necessary according to the symptoms of the patient, specialist physicians of other fields will come in to join in assessing and planning the rehabilitation as part of the team of care, so that every part of the rehabilitation is in harmony under a single plan of treatment, systematically.
Choosing advanced technology suited to the goals of rehabilitation of each individual
Brain Stimulation, Robotics Rehabilitation, exercise in water (Hydrotherapy), Body Weight Support Training, as well as physiotherapy in its various forms (Conventional Physical Therapy) will be selected so that they are suited to the state of the symptoms and the response of each patient.
Training continuously 4 hours, 3 - 5 days a week, covering every important dimension
The programme of training continuously 4 hours, 3 - 5 days a week helps make it possible to plan the rehabilitation comprehensively and continuously — assessment by the doctor, treatment with techniques that stimulate the nervous system and the brain, the use of rehabilitation robots, walking and balance, and training the skills of daily life — while reducing the limitations from waiting in a queue or from gaps between treatments, and so favouring the management of rehabilitation continuously and more systematically.
Following up progress systematically, together with caring for communication with the family
The recovery of the patient will be followed up through systematic assessment and clinical review at intervals, so that the plan of treatment can be adjusted suitably according to the results of the assessment and the response during the rehabilitation, together with giving knowledge and updating the progress to members of the family, so that every side understands the direction of the treatment together clearly.
Every part of the rehabilitation gathered in one place, together with the choice of inpatient (IPD) care
Every part of the rehabilitation is gathered in one place, so that the care proceeds continuously under the same team, reducing the complexity of referral and of coordination between several service units, together with the choice of inpatient (IPD) care for patients who need close care throughout the 24 hours, in cooperation with Kin Origin, in order to support rehabilitation suitably according to the condition of the patient at every stage.

Stories of real outcomes from rehabilitation
Khun Best, getting up and life after a stroke
Khun Best, a stroke patient aged 34 years, recovered to walking again and to living life close to normally, from rehabilitation with a walking-training robot during the Golden Period.
"Now I feel as though I have been born again. I get to walk forward with my child, get to walk to work, get to come back to living life, get to go back to walking in the mall... From someone who thought he would probably never get to go out and walk outside again. I have to say that the golden period is very important: however much you get back in the first 6 months, that is what life after that will be like."
Khun Phueak, a new step for a stroke patient
Khun Phueak, aged 42 years, recovered to being able to help himself and to walking without a stick, after suffering a ruptured cerebral blood vessel with weakness of the arm and leg on the left side.
"Doctor Pyong's team looked after me very well. I did physiotherapy from being unable to put weight on the weak leg... After a certain time passed, the weak leg began to walk much better, and the arm came back to having strength... I walk without having to use a stick now."
Inside the Program
The techniques and the technologies used in the rehabilitation
This programme combines care by rehabilitation physicians, targeted brain stimulation, advanced rehabilitation robots, and training in the skills of using the body, into the same model of treatment systematically, each technique being chosen according to the character of the symptoms, the stage of the recovery, and the functional goals of each patient.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation | TMS
Stimulating the brain with electromagnetic waves, helping adjust the balance of the working of the brain after a state of cerebrovascular disease, supporting recovery in the areas of movement, of walking training, of cognition, and of the use of language.
Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation | tDCS
Stimulating the brain with a low-level electrical current during rehabilitation activities, in order to support the recovery of the nervous system connected with movement, with the use of language, and with cognition.
Peripheral Magnetic Stimulation | PMS
Stimulation with magnetic waves at the peripheral nerves and the target groups of muscles, in order to help stimulate the weak arm and leg, reduce the state of spasticity, and help reinforce the effectiveness of training in the area of movement.
Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation | NMES
Electrical stimulation at specific points of the muscle, in order to help stimulate the working of the muscles during the period when the patient still cannot command them fully, possibly used in order to support the restoration of the movement of the arm, of the leg, or of swallowing.
Robotics Hand Training
A robotic system designed for training and rehabilitating the hand and the arm systematically, training gripping and opening, moving the fingers, picking up and holding, and the use of the hand in the routines of daily life, increasing the amount of repeated training and supporting the recovery of the working of the hand after a stroke.
Overground Wearable Exoskeleton
A wearable robot for training walking in the real environment, which helps govern the pattern of stepping, the placing of weight, and the control of movement, in order to help the patient gradually make the transition from walking that still has to rely on support or a walking aid, to walking by themselves more.
Isokinetic Leg Training
A technology for assessing and training the strength of the muscles by controlling the speed of the movement so that it is constant, helping analyse the force of the muscles, the control of movement, and the balance of the legs, in order to support the restoration of standing, walking, and use in daily life.
Isokinetic Arm Training
A technology for assessing and training the strength of the muscles of the arm by controlling the speed of the movement precisely, helping one see the capacity of the muscles, the control of movement, and the balance between the two sides, in order to take it to plan the rehabilitation of the arm and the hand more suitably.
Dynamic Balance Training
A dynamic device for training standing and balance, which helps support the control of the trunk, the transfer of weight, and training balance in an environment that is safe against falling, used in order to prepare readiness before walking and to support the restoration of movement in some patients.
Additional Enhancement Options
In some cases, the rehabilitation physician may consider using additional forms of treatment, such as TPS, Cerebrolysin, medicines to reduce the symptoms of muscle spasticity, and procedures under the guidance of ultrasound, so that they correspond to the problems and the needs of each patient.
