Alzheimer's and the prevention of dementia
Thai society is entering old age rapidly. Dementia, and Alzheimer's in particular, affects not only the quality of life of the patient, but also weighs heavily on the carers, those in the family, and society as a whole. Tara Rak-areekul, MD, or Dr Ming, a specialist physician in the nervous system and the brain, has emphasised the importance of caring for "the capacity of the brain", or cognitive function, and that prevention is therefore the most effective and worthwhile strategy.
